Alternative Apparel is a supplier of clothing to stores like Urban Outfitters.
I actually discovered Alternative Apparel through my friend's store,
Presence, in Chicago--a really classy, hip women's boutique in Andersonville that doesn't charge an arm and a leg. (I found a men's sized Dia de Los Muertos-themed belt there for $15!)
Alternative does most of its sales wholesale to other stores, but you can find great consumer sales through them as well. Instead of paying $30 for a shirt or a hat at UO, you can get it for half price direct.

Houndstooth Crew | Was $24.00 | Now $12.00
the Balboa (4 colors) | Was $24.00 | Now $12.00
Vintage Baseball Jersey (5 colors) | Was $24.00 | Now $12.00
the rider (3 colors) | Was $24.00 | Now $12.00

I hate navigating all the spoiled hipsters in the UO stores, but I like the clothes. Unfortunately, you'd have to be a banker or a trustafarian to afford them at full price. What's a boy to do? Shop online. The sales are great, and no item I've posted above is more than $30!
- $2.99 socks

Express has some really great fashions for men. They can be on the pricey side for mass market ready to wear clothes, but they are sleek, stylish, fit well in the shoulders and chest, and well-made. Girls will like you in their clothes. Very metrosexual. (

The picture above is a photograph of my shoes and suit pants on my wedding day. I got both of them at Macy's, the first store I went to when looking for my suit. In fact, I got everything in Macy's in one trip.
Here's what I wore:
- Michael Kors cotton summer suit (for an August wedding)
- Kenneth Cole western-style brown leather shoes, with aging, trim details, and leather soles
- A BCBG tie
- A BCBG white cotton button-up shirt
- A Fossil brown leather belt patterned with tiny holes
So what do you think I spent? $1000? $2000?
And how much time did it take? 10 hours? 20 hours of misery?
How about 5 hours + tailoring time (pick up the next week)
How about less than $400 total, including tailoring?
